My flat iron passed away about six months ago. I had a wonderful $100.00 Chi flat iron that got me through many bad hair days. After having it for many years it finally just stopped turning on all together.
Of course, I was on the hunt for a new flat iron…except for this time I was on a budget. I’m a college student, I can’t afford to spend $100 or so on a good flat iron.
I ended up heading to my nearest Target and coming home with a $15 Remington Flat Iron. I chose this flat iron because it was of course the cheapest and it heats up to a little over 400 degrees.
In my other post I reviewed Aussie’s Heat Protectant, but it was Tresemme’s product that I actually tried first.
From having no experience with heat protectants, I did not know what to expect. I applied this everyday before I used any type of heat product. Usually after I used heat products, my hair would just feel dry.
After using this heat protectant for a few months, I hate to say it but it works just as it says it does. By that I mean, it does nothing special. It just makes my hair feel a bit less dry and prevents heat damage. I noticed that I could go a little longer between haircuts because my hair was better protected from split ends when using the products.
By Poo of course I mean SHAMPOO.
The no shampoo method has been around for quite sometime. I tried this myself and I failed. I went for about a month or so without using shampoo. When I told people this, they thought it was disgusting. Let me clarify this, I did wash my hair, I just did not use a shampoo. Instead I used a dry shampoo in the shape of a foam. The only reason that I failed at this is because I did not feel that my dry shampoo cleaned my hair enough. But I did notice a definite improvement in the health of my hair. Surprisingly, my hair got wavier.
Why try the no poo method? Continue reading
Once upon a time, I was not a big believer in heat protectants. I never used them nor thought they would make any different in my hair routine. But one day I got curious and a I wanted to see what they big hype was about since many beauty blogs and youtube gurus were mentioning them. I was also tired of the split ends I would end from using a flat iron so often.
Before I get started, I’ll explain what a heat protectant is. Before using any heat tool (curling iron, flat iron, blow dryer etc.) it is important to use a heat protectant. A heat protectant coats your hair with a formula that prevents heat damage. Heat damage can be anything from split ends, breakage, and dryness. Many heat protectants also make your hair shinier and softer.
The next time you’re off to a BYOB function, consider leaving one beer at home in your fridge. Why? For your hair!
Surprisingly beer can help add body and shine to your hair. It also helps clean it and get rid of any excess junk/buildup.
I was a bit skeptical about this at first since it is beer after all. I was worried my hair would smell like a frat party throughout the day, but the smell does not last long.
Start off with just one can of beer, open it and let it sit there for a while. There are many different ways to incorporate beer into your hair care routine, so I’ll just start with the simplest.
After you shampoo your hair in the shower, poor the beer on your hair. Do not rinse it out right away! Massage it into your scalp as if it were any other shampoo and conditioner. After a few minutes rinse it out with cold water, then condition your hair as normal.
I’ve always been happy to have thick wavy hair. But as most of you may know, it takes quite a while to style. Months ago I was sick of how long it would take to straighten my hair because I had so much of it.
As some of may hair already guessed, I decided to chop off 7 inches of my hair. It’s just hair right? It grows back. But that’s not my issue here.
I also got my hair thinned out for the first and last time ever. It’s not that I was unhappy with having much less hair to style, it’s the after effects.
Normally when I buy any wave or curl enhancing products I try to find a gel or mousse of some sort. But I decided to try something different and opt for the spray to see if works the same.
The first thing I noticed about this product is the smell, it smells very fruity (like apples, maybe). A good smelling product is always a plus in my book. Continue reading
